Farmers’ Electric Cooperative is an electric distribution cooperative headquartered in Chillicothe, Missouri serving approximately 13,000 meters. Farmers’ Electric employs 40 people, including many who live in our service area. Safety Manager

Position Summary:

The Safety Manager at Farmers’ Electric Cooperative (FEC) is responsible for promoting and maintaining a strong culture of safety for both employees and the general public. This individual plays an essential role in ensuring compliance with safety regulations, conducting safety inspections, and leading training initiatives. The Safety Manager will actively collaborate with the Cooperative’s leadership team and safety committee to create a safe and productive work environment and culture while addressing potential hazards and implementing safety programs.

Essential Functions:

  • Leadership & Safety Communication: Lead organizational safety communication efforts to ensure effective communication with all stakeholders, including employees, contractors, and the public. Serve as an integral member of the Safety Committee and a key member of the senior leadership team.

  • Safety Observations & Incident Management: Conduct field safety observation visits, assess safety equipment and work practices, and issue stop-work orders when unsafe conditions are identified. Lead incident investigations involving employees, the public, or Cooperative property, and prepare necessary claims and compliance reports.

  • Safety Program Coordination & Employee Training: Coordinate and assist in the implementation of safety activities, such as MECIP, Federated Rural Electric Insurance inspections, leading and conducting safety meetings, and employee training.

  • Compliance & Record Management: Maintain comprehensive records for all aspects of FEC’s safety program, including OSHA forms, incident reports, and safety-related documentation. Oversee dielectric PPE testing and manage the Cooperative’s FR clothing program. Assist as needed in administering the random drug and alcohol testing program in compliance with Cooperative policy and DOT regulations. Maintain DOT records and ensure FMCSA compliance for required personnel.

Minimum Qualifications & Preferences:

Sufficient education, training, and/or related work experience to possess the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, which would typically be acquired through:

  • Journeyman Lineman certification or a closely related field, with five years of professional experience in the electric utility industry and five years of experience at the supervisory/foreman level, or a combination of both.

  • Certified Loss Control Professional (CLCP): Certified, or the ability to obtain certification within two years of employment.

  • Availability to support and assist with outage situations and crisis communications, and participate in community and organizational events, as required, including after-hours availability.
