Farmers’ Electric employs 40 people, including many who live in our service area. Line Superintendent
Position Summary:
The Line Superintendent is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the construction, maintenance, and operation of the Cooperative’s electric distribution system. Working under the direction of the Operations Manager, this position ensures the safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of electric service to Cooperative members. The Line Superintendent supervises line crews, coordinates field operations, supports right-of-way and fleet management, and ensures compliance with safety regulations and Cooperative policies.
This role requires a strong focus on safety, professionalism, and member service, as well as the ability to lead in both routine operations and emergency response situations. The Line Superintendent collaborates with internal teams and external stakeholders to support strategic initiatives, operational planning, and continuous improvement across the organization.
Essential Functions:

Promote Safety & Compliance: Lead by example in maintaining safe work practices and ensuring adherence to regulations, job briefings, and inspections.

Supervise Operations & Crews: Oversee line crew activities, construction, maintenance, vegetation management, and assist with warehouse and fleet operations.

Support Planning & Coordination: Contribute to project planning, cost estimates, right-of-way acquisition, and budget administration, while coordinating with other departments.

Foster Teamwork & Leadership: Maintain professionalism, support cooperative decisions, and collaborate across teams to achieve goals.

Engage with Members & Public: Address member concerns, communicate effectively in both routine and crisis situations, and ensure a high level of service.

Act as Operational Backup: Serve as backup for the Operations Manager, participate in on-call rotation, and engage in training, union contract support, and strategic planning.
Minimum Qualifications & Preferences:

Education & Training: High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of Power Line School preferred.

Experience: Minimum of five years as a Journeyman Lineman, with strong knowledge of rural electric utility operations and electrical project plans.

Licensing & Safety: Must have or obtain a Class A CDL and certifications in First Aid and CPR; must maintain an insurable driving record.

Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office and able to learn and operate utility-specific software and systems.

Professional Attributes: Demonstrates professionalism, adaptability, confidentiality, strong work ethic, and ability to perform under minimal supervision.

Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Excellent English language, reading, and writing skills; approachable, collaborative, and able to work effectively with diverse teams.
